The Visual Arts program takes place in a vibrant, creative hub where students from Foundation to Year 6 engage in a weekly art session. Students are guided to create and critique art, build technical skills and explore different materials across various styles and mediums. 

The program is structured around the four strands of the Victorian Curriculum:

• Explore and Express Ideas: Students learn to use their imagination and the world around them as a starting point for art-making. They explore different ways to express personal stories, values, and concepts.
  
  
• Visual Arts Practices: This strand focuses on the "how" of art. Students develop technical skills using various materials, techniques, and technologies (such as painting, ceramics, and digital media) to create specific effects.
  
  
• Present and Perform: Students learn the importance of the audience. They practice planning, displaying, and evaluating how their artworks are curated and shared within the school community.
  
  
• Respond and Interpret: Students become critical thinkers by analysing and reflecting on their own work and the work of artists from diverse cultures and time periods, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

The Visual Arts program at Kangaroo Flat Primary School is deeply rooted in the Science of Learning, which emphasizes explicit instruction, scaffolding and multiple checks for understanding throughout each lesson.

Students emerge from the Visual Arts program with a diverse set of skills to become lifelong learners, creative thinkers and problem solvers who develop a sense of curiosity and imagination about the world around them.
