All students at Kangaroo Flat Primary School participate in a weekly 60 minute music lesson. During these lessons, students all engage in a range of activities including singing, listening, playing, creating, and moving to music. The music lessons and assessment align with the Victorian Curriculum.
This curriculum aims to:
Our Foundation to Year 6 music program is a hands-on, inclusive program that builds students’ skills and confidence through active music-making. Students learn to read, say, clap, and play rhythm using rhythm syllables such as ta, ti-ti, ta-a, and sa, helping them understand beat and rhythm. Across all year levels, students explore the elements of music including rhythm, pitch, dynamics, texture, timbre, and form, and learn how these elements work together to communicate ideas and feelings in music.
Students learn, practice, and create music on a range of instruments including bucket drums, ukuleles, xylophones, boom whackers, and a variety of untuned and tuned percussion instruments. Through singing, playing, moving, composing, and listening activities, students develop coordination, ensemble skills, creativity, and musical literacy. We also offer Grades 3-6 students to join our school choir.
